Katz is a queer art historian and theorist. Along with David Ward, Katz co-curated the 2010 Smithsonian exhibit Hide/Seek:Difference and Desire in American Portraiture, which featured a 4-minute, posthumously made edit of Wojnarowicz's film A Fire in My Belly.
