Bidlo is a conceptual artist, whose work in the 1980s appropriated and re-presented acclaimed modern works of art. He was a friend and artistic collaborator of Wojnarowicz, who introduced him to the Ward Line Pier on Manhattan's west side, an abandoned building that Wojnarowicz had been using to create giant murals and graffiti images. Seeing the enormous possibility the space held for poor artists in a city where space was expensive, Bidlo and Wojnarowicz spread the word about its location and invited others to join them in creating art on the pier.
