P.P.O.W. Gallery
Penny Pilkington and Wendy Olsoff started PPOW Gallery in the East Village in 1983. They began representing Wojnarowicz in 1989 when Gracie Mansion lost her backers and considered shutting down the gallery. PPOW offered Wojnarowicz a strong platform for his work at this stage of his career: they had moved from the East Village to a larger SoHo location in September 1988, and were known for showing other artists who dealt with political issues in their work, such as Sue Coe, Carrie Mae Weems, and Nancy Spero.
P.P.O.W. continues to represent the Estate of David Wojnarowicz.
